Description
The YouTube Data API v3 gives programmatic access to public YouTube data: videos, channels, playlists, comments and search results. With user authorisation it can also upload and manage content on a channel you control.
In a marketing workflow it suits competitor channel tracking, video performance snapshots (views, likes, comment counts), comment mining and content research. An agent can pull statistics for a list of video IDs in one cheap call.
It is a good fit for anyone who needs YouTube data at modest volume. It is not suited to large-scale scraping: the default daily quota is small, and raising it needs a separate request to Google.

Editor’s note What our review found
Editorial research, reviewed 23 Oct 2026. We read Google's quota and getting-started pages. We did not run live calls. This listing is not an endorsement.
Cost: Google's quota pages list no charge. Usage is limited by a daily quota per Google Cloud project. You need a Google account and a Cloud project with the API enabled. More quota is requested through a form, and Google may audit your use.
Credentials and data: public data needs an API key. Uploads, edits and deletes need OAuth 2.0 user consent. Keep keys and tokens in environment variables or a secret manager, not in code or plain-text files. Your queries and video IDs go to Google. Comment data can contain personal information, so handle it with care.
Good to know: the quota page gives a default of 100 search.list calls and 100 videos.insert calls per day, plus 10,000 units per day for all other endpoints, and says the default can change. Older guides say search costs 100 units, so check the page before you plan around either number. Every request costs at least 1 unit, even invalid ones. Quotas reset at midnight Pacific time.
