Description
The Mailchimp Marketing API lets you read and write the data in a Mailchimp account: audiences and contacts, tags, campaigns, templates and campaign reports. It is a REST API with a single root endpoint that links to every resource.
It fits workflows that sync contacts from a CRM or app into Mailchimp, create and schedule campaigns, or pull campaign performance into a report or agent.
Use it if your list already lives in Mailchimp. If you only need to send one-off app emails, a transactional email service is a closer fit.

Editorial research, reviewed 23 Oct 2026. We read Mailchimp's pricing page and developer docs. We did not run live calls. This listing is not an endorsement.
Cost: Mailchimp's plan comparison shows the Free plan with up to 250 contacts (one pricing page line also mentions fewer than 500). The pricing pages do not say whether API access is included on the Free plan, so we could not confirm it. Paid plans are Essentials, Standard and Premium. With the USD view, Essentials starts at $8.87 a month for the smallest contact tier (the page also shows a 50% off promotion for 12 months). Prices rise with contact count.
Credentials and data: you authenticate with an API key or OAuth. Store the key in an environment variable or secret manager, never in code or a plain-text file. The API gives you contact data (names, emails, tags), so GDPR and consent rules apply to what you store and sync.
Good to know: the root endpoint returns a pricing_plan_type field (monthly, pay_as_you_go or forever_free), which you can use to check the account.
Note: Mailchimp's docs give https://api.mailchimp.com/3.0/ as the root URL and show the ping example below. If calls to that host fail, use your data-center host, for example https://us19.api.mailchimp.com (the part after the dash in your API key).
